HHS secretary commends the approval.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced the recommendation for the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine for seniors 60 and over. RSV usually has similar symptoms to a mild cold but in infants and older adults it can become a more serious illness, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia. There is only one RSV vaccine licensed for use in the United States.
“For the first time in U.S. history, people 60 years and older can now receive a vaccine for protection against the RSV virus,” Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said. “As we prepare for the fall vaccine campaign, we will follow the data and science to protect our nation’s most vulnerable older adults, those living in nursing or long-term care facilities, and the immunocompromised.”
